Quick Drive Consist Issue

Unread postby PNWR1854 » Thu Jun 28, 2018 10:52 am

I will go to quick drive to make a custom consist. Then it will begin to load. When it gets to around 57 percent, the game freezes and then when I go to look, there is a dump file on my desktop !*don-know!*

As your list of available QD rolling stock grows, so does the the load on your system resources when you go into the consist builder.

I would imagine that its pegging the games ram limit. You can verify this by running in windowed mode, with the 'performance' tab in your task manager open concurrently. If the games RAM usage gets to around 3,400MB when the game crashes, then you have your answer.

I strongly suggest making Free Roam scenarios instead of Quick Drive, but that's just my take.

Could I free up space by deleting unwanted QD consists?

Its not physical hard drive space that is the issue. When you go to your QD consist builder, it loads every quick drive ready piece of rolling stock. Thats every single DLC, plus all of the repaints you may have. You could uninstall DLC that you don't use (I uninstalled most of my UK and Euro stuff) so that those pieces of stock don't load, but that defeats the point of having a DLC collection in my opinion.

Once you get the hang of it, you can make a free roam just as quick or quicker than you can set up a consist in the QD builder.

Yeah I have been doing free roam scenarios because this has been happening for a long time. However, I have the Montana Rail Link route (The one without marias pass assets) and when making a scenario, it just has the donner pass location names when picking the location to make the scenario, when in quick drive, it has the normal ones. E.g.= when making a Free Roam scenario, it will show things like emigrant gap and reno, when In QD, it shows dixon, paradose, ETC...

Some time ago I published this recipe to get non-crash custom consists:
http://railworksamerica.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=16967&p=194046&hilit=How+to+save+a+consist+for+multiple+scenarios#p194178

This works all the time, unless:
1) You have a corrupt custom consists file (...Content\ConsistTemplates.bin)
2) You have corrupt rolling stock (since the editor loads all train assets in your Railworks)

It takes time to load the locos and cars, depending on the amount you have in your collection. So be patient.
Once you load all stock you can do as many consists as you wish (and faster). The complete stock is now in your cache.
I have made +100 cars consists this way.
The custom consists may be called and used in the Scenario Build editor. You only need to enable all rolling stock in that consist by using the little cube.
