HELP! crash on loading scenario

Unread postby Griphos » Thu Jan 11, 2018 6:41 pm

Hello gents,

I've been away from TS for a bit. Ran it some during TS2017's tenure, but not much since updating to TS2018 (automagically). I've been missing it, though, and lately have tried to run a few scenarios. The issue is that about 2/3 of the time, when I select the scenario (always Standard, I only run Standard scenarios), the sim will crash shortly after starting to load the scenario. Sometimes I can restart and re-run the scenario and it loads. Mostly, though I have to pick a different one and take my chances again. You can imagine that I quickly get frustrated and turn to something else.

I've been running this sim since 2011, and I put a lot of stuff into it at first. Stuff from here, stuff from UKTS. Stuff I bought from third-party guys you are mostly familiar with but who aren't with us anymore (in one way or another). In 2017, I tried to clear most of that out using utilities and the package manager. I have lots and lots of workshop scenarios, and over time, since that list got so crowded, I would move them over into the standard scenario location in each route they were for. This always worked fine.

But, with the update to TS2018, something ain't copacetic anymore.

I enabled logmate, and ran the sim again selecting the same scenario (To the Sea, a workshop scenario for the West Lines of Scotland and the Jinty) that just crashed the sim and at the relevant part (the end) of the log, it says:

Code: Select all
[Scaleform 5:23:21 PM] Trace cScaleformManager.cpp : 90 = _slidetime

[Scaleform 5:23:21 PM] Trace cScaleformManager.cpp : 90 = loading feed: http://storage.googleapis.com/ts1-slideshow-feed/en

[Scaleform 5:23:22 PM] Trace cScaleformManager.cpp : 90 = adding URL: http://slides.trainsim.net/ts1-slideshow/1080_Out_Now.jpg

[Scaleform 5:23:22 PM] Trace cScaleformManager.cpp : 90 = adding URL: http://slides.trainsim.net/ts1-slideshow/TSW_OutNow_1080_RapidTransit.jpg

[RunTimeError 5:23:27 PM] cBlueprintSet::loadFile File exists in blueprint set, but is not a valid blueprint: RailNetwork\Trackrules\PONtrack.bin
[RunTimeError 5:23:27 PM]
[RunTimeError 5:23:28 PM] cBlueprintSet::loadFile()
[RunTimeError 5:23:28 PM]
[RunTimeError 5:23:28 PM] cBlueprintSet.cpp : 367

So, this seems to perhaps be a blueprint issue? (I know nothing about blueprints).

But at the top of the log, there's a whole lot of:

Code: Select all

I mean a WHOLE LOT of that sort of thing.

I'm wondering how to go about repairing whatever damage I've done that is causing these problems. I verified the game cache (several times). It downloaded some files.

I'm about to try to download the massive set of payware again....(80gb or so's worth!!). This will take a week or so at my internet speeds. And I'm not sure that will fix it. I'd need to resubscribe to a mess of workshop scenarios again (but that's fine). And I'd lose all the various mods I've done or loaded over the years (which may or may not be a bad thing...mostly sound stuff, or steam loco changes to smoke, etc....I can't even remember most of them). I have all the payware downloads I've bought from third party folks still, I think (

Is there a less drastic measure? Can I just delete all the scenarios in each of my routes and verify the game cache again and let them download all of the ones that come with the routes?

Any other ideas?

All help appreciated. I'm old, and have forgotten anything I knew about the inner mysteries of this sim.

Is this issue happening with only Workshop scenarios, or 'stock' scenarios that come with DLC as well?

I see the PONtrack has reared it's ugly head on you. 99% sure this is most of your problem as this creates all kinds of havoc and crashes. Do a search for all copies of this evil thing and delete them. See if that fixes what ails you.

@Buzz: That's a new one to me!! Thanks! That's a file, right? I'll do a search in railworks and delete any I find and test again.

@BoostedFridge: interesting question. I have so many Workshop scenarios loaded into my regular routes, it's hard to tell which is which. This is one that I've done that with. It's not subscribed in the Workshop, just sitting in the route folder. I'll subscribe to it again, and test. And then I'll find a default scenario for WLoS and try that.

Thanks for the quick help guys. Anything to avoid those huge downloads!!! Fingers crossed.

On a related note, I remember to clear the cache, and that seems to have gotten rid of all of those "scenario not found" entries.

EDIT: Well, I subscribed to To the Sea again, and launched it from the Workshop tab, and same issue. Windows is still searching for PONtrack, and has found three so far. I'll let it finish the search and delete all of them and try again. Given what the log said, right before the crash, I'm inclined to think Buzz is right in his diagnosis.

SUCCESS!! Windows Explorer found four PONtrack.bin files and I deleted them. Started and ran the scenario that was crashing and it loaded fine! Tried a few others. All loaded (except one which loaded but had missing assets...which I can fix).

Thanks, Buzz. Who knows how long it would have taken me to figure that out, being AWOL as I have been and not paying attention.

Side note: Running the logmate slows everything to a CRAWL!!! Don't want to have that running all the time!

This can be automated. I put this line in a DOS batch file I run every week from my railworks folder:
del /S PONtrack.bin
Over the hill and gathering speed

That's a very helpful tip! Thanks. I'll add that in.
