XML Editing problem, please help

Unread postby o0nightfire0o » Thu Mar 09, 2017 11:34 am

so I have this Russian route and at first it wasn't showing up in RWTools so I added the routes English name to the routes xml and after that it showed fine

so then I changed the scenario names in the scenario xml and it showed up fine in RWTools, but the problem is that it caused the scenario to disappear completely from my game.

I have no clue bout editing the xml files, but I tried all I thought off, even removing the lines with Russian text, I even shortened the Russian text and the scenario still disappeared...

any ideas guys?... please be as layman as possible in replies **!!bang!!** lol

In most cases of error within an .xml file, the error is usually caused by a syntax error, which means you deleted a bracket or some sort of symbol or text other than text within > < brackets. Its a common mistake and happens to all of us. Hopefully you saved a copy of the original files to compare to your edited copy to make the changes.

I do have back ups of them all, but I just checked and the only thing deleted were text lines, all the >< are there...

here is a copy of what it looks like, this is the only thing I changed, other things are in Russian though, ive also tried it with and without the zero before the three

<Localisation-cUserLocalisedString>
<English d:type="cDeltaString">03/Moss - passenger on the South</English>
<French d:type="cDeltaString"></French>
<Italian d:type="cDeltaString"></Italian>
<German d:type="cDeltaString"></German>
<Spanish d:type="cDeltaString"></Spanish>
<Dutch d:type="cDeltaString"></Dutch>
<Polish d:type="cDeltaString"></Polish>
<Russian d:type="cDeltaString">3/moss - пассажирский на ЮГ</Russian>

ive also tried changing everything that's in Russian on another xml

I don't want to put you off, but if you're going to mess with XML files, you need to (1) get a copy of Notepad ++ (free) and XML filters, then (2) go here and take the XML Tutorial: https://www.w3schools.com/xml/default.asp. This will go a long way and get you some resume fodder at the same time....

thank you ill look into that, but I didn't nor do I want to do anything over the top, I just used google translator to give me the text in English and I added them to the English string of the scenario, so it should of worked, it worked fine with the route xml so why not the scenarios xml in the same route

EDIT: another thing when I edit it and it doesn't work, if I put it back to looking like the original form, it still doesn't show in my game, I have have to completely overright the file

We have found the solution. Open the scenario in the scenario editor and edit the name of the scenario at the top of the right hand fly-out. It adds the English string and does whatever we were missing by just editing the xml itself. All that's left now is to translate the descriptions and instructions. Tests indicate that can be done at leisure in RW_Tools. Oh what fun...
