VNHRR 3 Missing Car Logos

Unread postby munkelwitz » Sat Oct 01, 2016 10:36 am

After installing the free upgrade for the VNHRR (thank you for that) the non-New Haven freight cars have no logos, but only numbers and reporting data, e.g., the B&M blue boxcar. Any suggestions on fixing the problem? Thanks.

I can answer part of the issue.

I believe the equipment in the steam release (Non-NH Stock only) has the emblems muted to avoid any possible licensing issues. In my case, I copied the textures folder and all associated textures from the 40ft-xm-ps1-foreign, 43ft-gondola, 65ft-Gondola, and the Caboose.

Copying these files in from your older copy of VNHRR 2.0 should reinstall the muted emblems.

Hope this helps

Thank you Tom. That solved the problem perfectly and all the logos are present.

Except for the fact that the real problem lies with overzealous, pointless brand protection. Honestly, what harm could possibly be done by allowing accurate logos to appear on the rolling stock of a train simulator? Go ahead and add a percentage to the cost of each item to support your CEO from dire poverty, but let us RR fantasists enjoy our simple pleasures.

I think it's more a matter of greedy corporate lawyers and executives and not "political correctness", whatever one's opinion on that topic may be. The gazillions the few at the top make (or worse, inherit without having worked a single day in their lives!) while the rest of the world struggles to make ends meet is about as far removed from correct anything as I can imagine. We're descending back into feudal times where a small and mostly hereditary aristocracy holds all the political and economic power and has a whole society of servants to cater to their wishes.

Just my **!!2cents!!**

Besides, and also trying to back on topic *!embar*! , Tom (BLLW) was correct in both the reasons for the removed logos and the workaround for those that have a copy of version 2 of the route. And on a(nother) personal note, I'm quite happy to do that "one RR per DLC" thing if it means reducing the risks of another BNSF-like disaster from happening. There are still several DLC's that I'd like to get but can't just because the lawyers said no.

Edit: I see that I have probably derailed this topic very much now, but we are in the "Problems and Pecularities" forum, are we not? !*cheers*!

You guys are right. It is sad when you can't use what is displayed publically every day on a piece of rolling stock. I guess if they could, we would be charged for taking a picture of a Locomotive and Rolling Stock, that we can see everyday.

There seem to be two different issues here: some companies have refused to allow DTG use of their logos; but in other cases DTG or others who make routes for DTG, such as T&D, have blurred or omitted logos in anticipation of such a refusal. I'd like to know whether any RR has issued a public denial and, if so, where that public denial can be read.

Then there's the matter of certain DLCs not being available in certain areas of the globe due to real or feared trademark issues. I know that some U. S. routes, for example, are not available for purchase in other countries, but is the opposite also true? That is, are any British, German, or French routes not available for sale in the U.S.?

If you hadn't noticed the missing logos, you probably don't need them. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who cares more about operating trains than about their logos.
