New Haven Springfield Engine sounds dissapear

As the title says I have an issue that the engine sounds will randomly disappear on this route. I've had this happen with the 44 tonner, FL9 and GP9. I haven't used the FA-2 or Rs3 much since the update so I don't know if this is happening with them too. I'm using the TaD version updated as GN said, my only modification is copying the old freight car textures to the new ones to get the logos back.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Hello,

This issue has been reported in the Workshop a few times, but so far only with the EMD FL-9 and not with all engines. At this point I have absolutely no idea what could be causing this, don't even know where to begin looking for a possible cause, and no sound errors or issues got reported during the long period of beta testing. This is quite puzzling!

You mentioned that you are running the Trains & Drivers version of the route -- weare currently working on a patch for some scenario issues. I doubt that it would do anything about the sounds issue, but maybe you can try installing it anyway?

Installing the patch now.

This was an odd one for me as I've never seen it before. The S2 it doesn't happen. The GG1 also had a lot of issues, no engine sounds, the bell only sometimes worked and the horn would cut out a lot. On the 44 tonner it happens for me usually when I blow the horn outside the cab, either dropping the throttle to 0 and letting the RPM go down all the way, or fly as far away from the engine and fly back restores them. Don't know if this will help you at all.

Running the route again, I noticed with the Fl9 it happens when I pass another train, then the sounds go wonky. I think it may have something to do with the railcar sounds.

What is your sound software?

Nvidia, sound from the graphics card. I'll see about using my headset if that changes it.

I have had this a few times on different routes both BR and US. I do not know the cause but if I swing the outside camera to view the front of the locomotive all engine sounds will return. Usually background sounds will still be there but no locomotive sounds, horn or bell.I assume it has some conflict in the sound .bin

I had some sound problems in TS with sounds cutting in and out depending on camera angle. I discovered something had set my speakers as 5.1 surround. With only 2 speakers I was not getting all the sound. I changed the speaker setup to stereo and it is much better.

Thanks much for the replies!

I still do not know what is going on here, but it is a bit of a relief that it is not limited to our route.

Here's one theory: if this happens on other routes too, could it be a memory overload? Too many sounds being loaded by the game engine, causing some of the older (earlier started) sound streams to stop playing? This is just me thinking out loud, but back in RS/RW's early days route scenery was a lot less detailed than on today's routes and train sounds were also simpler (freight cars had almost no sounds!) It might also explain why this "sounds cutting out" issue seems to happen in the built-up areas and/or when there's lot of AI trains around.

All that being said, I still have no idea what, if anything, we could to do address this issue.
