Repainting the GP35

Hello there! I'm going to be starting a new route project with a friend, the Housatonic RR in Canaan, CT. The line uses GP35's and GP35M's as main power, and we were going to repaint a few of the UP GP35's from DTM's pack into their livery. We soon encountered a problem, however. As soon as you go to edit the
.bin file like a normal repaint, the engine no longer shows up in the engine list in TS. We think it may be because DTM/DTG put a protection onto the locos to prevent repainting. If anyone has anything we can do to get around this, or simply if anyone can tell us what we aren't doing, then THANK YOU in advance!!!

The only time I've had this is if I've forgotten to change the geometry and collision geometry entries. Did you make a copy of the original to work with? I can't imagine they've tried to prevent repainting (though you never know) as that's half the fun of TS. Remember your typing has to be perfect. A dash or underscore will do it.

I am working on a re-paint for the MRL on the GP35 and I can assure you that it does not have any prevention things to prevent re-paints. It does have a bunch of other quirks like dependencies on the 40 but if you get the bin description in order it should show up for you.

I see something here that needs to be clarified, JHM, after editing the .bin files, the new repaint doesn't show in the engines list, the original UP GP35, DD35 and DD35A are still there. I have followed the repainting process to the letter, and all other repaints I've attempted have come out just fine, never have any had this error. I also created a new folder in the assets folder, under my name, then with some of my repaints inside, I tried this with the GP35, but I got the same result as before, and I did edit the .bin file correctly for the different file location. JHM, also had tried a to create a horn mod for the GP35, but got the same result as my repaint.

I am always amazed at anyone who says I did it perfectly and it doesn't work. With all due respect if you did it perfectly it would work. Computers are like that. There is always a reason when it doesn't do what you think it should. Always.

Buzz, well now that I know someone has had success with the GP35, I know I didn't do it perfectly. However, I did everything I have had to do with ALL of my other repaints, plus I checked the .bin file from top to bottom, but I could not find anything wrong with it. Since you have had some success with it, with all due respect to you, would you mind telling us what you had to do, instead of complaining about other people's failures and mistakes?

Ya, Buzz, I just tried it yet again, making sure ev erything was typed correctly. It still does not show up in game, and I'm starting to get a bit confused...what else can you suggest?

I wasn't complaining just commenting after being on here for years how many times people have said they followed the directions exactly and it still didn't work. Once in a great while someone gives a bad direction but most of the time the problem is elsewhere.

Here is my bin file for the MRL that I am re-painting. Just change every place that I put MRL for whatever. Remember that the .ap will do strange things if you don't have it disabled sometimes.

Buzz, thanks for your .bin file, but I regret to say, it still does not work, I checked the file multiple times, it is exactly how it should be. The .ap files is set up exactly how I normally do it, and on all my other repaints work just fine when packaged like this, including one I'm currently nearing completion on. I also checked the path in the .bin file, and it is exactly how it should be.

I also tried experimenting with the
.ap file, including deleting the previous files and unpacking the
.ap again, but that has not worked either.

maybe you need to make the .ap a .ap.xxx so it is inactive. Then the bin can't read it.

Buzz, I tried that as well, but no result.

Does your file structure look like this and are you sure you renamed this one you are trying to do the same inside the folder as outside?

Yes, that is exactly how it looks. I changed the name from MRL to HRRC in the .bin file and to "GP35HRRC" in the file structure.
