Utilities.exe error won't clear. Can't install .rwp

Unread postby JackD » Mon Apr 06, 2015 12:19 pm

My Utilities.exe/pkg mgr is choking on "path or title is too long...." Error !**. It has heretofore always responded to "continue" but just keeps churning this time using the processor on and off. Shall I just let it churn til the "Error" clears, or is there any way to clear the "Error" or a work around to install an .rwp file/folder?

Thanks in advance for any help.

The work around is open the rwp folder with 7 zip and then install the contents into their proper places manually.

Buzz could you please write a little tutorial on how to unzip these rwp folders and install them into TS 2015.
For us computer challenged Old Timers.
My computer won't unpack these files anymore either.
I would be very happy to have a way to load these repaints again.

Thanks,
Bob

For me, the advantage of the package manager over other forms of installation is that packages can be removed easily later. Is the same true of this method, Buzz?

I've never run into the type of error described in the OP, but would it be possible to simply shorten the rwp file's name? Or is the overly long name somewhere inside the package? !*don-know!*

This method won't let you uninstall a package easily.
You can do it by opening the package again in 7zip, looking at the files Inside and removing them from your installation, hoping they are not necessary for something else.
But I have never uninstalled a package in 5 years, so that's not a problem for me.

My problem is that I keep getting this message when I try to load the RWP file.
This action can't work. You must download NET Framework v2.0.50727.
I have tried this with the downloads on the internet in several different sites and it just won't install.
My computer will not cooperate and load the newer version of Net Framework whatever that is ?? !*not-ok*!

Just install the version provided with Railworks.
I think it's in Railworks\Install.

But you don't even need that if you use 7zip as suggested.

Rename the RWP file to ZIP and any packager, including Windows itself (if you are running one of the later versions) can unpack the files.
