Donner Pass file path change

Unread postby BoostedFridge » Tue Dec 30, 2014 1:40 am

Hi all,

I've been slowly reinstalling all my third party content to my railworks, since most of it was erased when I had to re-download the game. I'm trying to get a set of Michael Zimmer's SD40T-2 repaints to work, but have noticed that the folder structure for the routes assets has changed at some point recently.

The repaints are supposed to be placed in "Assets/RSC/DonnerPass/Railvehicles/... etc" but the .ap file that the Donner Pass assets are in now is titled "Donnerpassassets.ap" and consequently when I unpack it with 7zip the folder structure becomes "assets/RSC/DonnerPassAssets/Railvehicles/... etc"

I initially didn't notice this and installed the repaint folders, and copied the Geopcdx files as normal. The repaints appeared on the list of locomotives to place in my scenario editor but won't appear when I try to place them on the track.

Is there some way of getting these to work again? Any help of suggestions would be appreciated.

I have had the similar type of issue. Sounds like with your issue you might just need to change the file names in the .xml/.bin files. Might be an easier way to do it than what I know is to unpack the assest, add what you want into the .ap file, then repack it as an .ap file and rename the original to have a backup, then change your file to what it was so it would read that file.

Hopefully that made some sense, for me easier done than explained.

You can also manually add the old style file and folder tree back and place the reskins in those. The game will still read them.
You shouldn't have to unpack the .ap files. Well... except to get the Geo files out to paste into the externally created file.
New build. i7-7700k, MSI Z270 Gaming M5 Mobo, Hyper 212 Evo, Corsair DDR4 3200 Mhz RAM, Klipsch Pro Mediea 2.1 Speakers, Samsung 850 Evo SSD, HAF XM Case, Asus Strix GTX 1070 and Cooler Master Storm XT Keyboard.

Nonono this is wrong.
It doesn't do that for me.
The name of the archive file has no effect on the extracted path.
You are doing something wrong with 7zip.

I don't know if this helps or adds more mud to the water but with WinRAR, I can just replace a file with a drag and drop with no need to unpack the actual .ap file.

After a Steam file check, the .ap file will still be replaced but that's going to happen with whatever method you use unless you unpack and also leave the original .ap file in place as well.

Your experience might vary but it has worked for me a few times on Donner Pass when I replace the switch stand's incorrect colors.

Thanks Chacal! I should have been selecing 'extract here' in 7zip, as opposed to 'extract files'. Working now.
