RSC Union Pacific Big Boy, Headlight not working anymore

Unread postby wopflyer » Fri Nov 07, 2014 2:49 am

I have a problem that I hope someone here can help me with. I have had the RSC Union Pacific Big Boy installed on my game for months now, and have never had a problem with it. But this last week I noticed that the front headlight won't come on and there is no steam coming from the whistle when you blow it. Also, there is no steam coming from the cylinders. All my other loco's work fine. I tried reloading it from a back-up copy of the game I made week's ago when I know it was working fine, but that did not help.

I tried experimenting to find out where the problem is by placing the front half from the Big Boy onto the back half from the Challenger, and the headlight comes on just fine. But if you place the front half from the Challenger onto the back half from the Big Boy, the headlight still won't work. So I'm thinking the problem might be in the cab on the Big Boy.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

I believe this is a DTG issue. A couple of us have been discussing this and it appears to have something to do with the 2015 update but we are not sure what is causing it. Both the challenger and the BB seem to have lost their cylinder ** steam and headlight on the challenger. Perhaps you could open a ticket with DTG and see if you get any answer.

I'll do that Buzz, thanks.

Just so you know though, I do have the Challenger as well and it's working fine. Also, I did go back and look at the Big Boy again and I noticed that the rear headlight that's on the tender comes on now no matter if you have the switch set to forward or rear. And it also is ON even if you have cars connected to the tender. And lastly, I tried using both the Big Boy tender and one from the Challenger, and it made no difference. So again, I "think" the problem is either in the Big Boy rear section files, the cab files, or maybe the simulation files, depending on where the control scripts for the light and effects are located.

After what I discovered on my SD75 headlights, I've been suspecting a core game change exposed Engine Blueprint problems on some of the engines.
IE my SD75 headlights work after putting the notch settings to the proper ones in the Engine bin. This was a problem in my 2014 backup as well when I looked, but wasn't exposed until the 2015 update for some reason.
I wonder if the Steam emitters could have a similar problem?

I've been wondering if it has something to do with the older SD70 headlights, but I haven't looked at those engines yet.

I'm now wishing I hadn't deleted my TS2013 Backup. I'd like to take a look back that far at some of those bins and see if those engines had the same bin settings back then or if some of this actually occurred in TS2014.

Another engine from another country which you guys are probably not interested in :D has headlight problems as well since the update which is the Class 158 on the Settle to Carlisle route, they won't come on, only the tail lights work.

BTW the original Big Boy from IHH never had a working headlight. DTG must of modified it to have a working headlight when they took it over from IHH.

I hadn't driven my Challenger for awhile, but got curious after some of what I've been reading.
My Challenger's Headlight works, but the steam emitters and audio for the Cylinder Cocks don't work. It's as if the Cylinder Cocks don't work at all now.

The steam emitters for my Challenger's generators don't work either.
The more I drive 2015 the more frustrated I get.

Ok, I did figure out how to fix the Big Boy headlight. Now this is for the RSC Big Boy, not the older IHH one, and you will need a program such as RW Tools for this.

First, go to C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/common/Railworks/Assets/RSC/BigboyPack01/RailVehicles/Steam/BigBoy/Default/Engine.

Second, you want to edit the file, BB_RearFrames_Engine_Blueprint.bin (Make a backup of this file first!).

Once you have this file open, you want to scroll down and look for this;

<ControlName d:type="cDeltaString">Headlights</ControlName>
<DefaultValue d:type="sFloat32" d:alt_encoding="0000000000000000" d:precision="string">0</DefaultValue>
<MinimumValue d:type="sFloat32" d:alt_encoding="0000000000000000" d:precision="string">0</MinimumValue>
<MaximumValue d:type="sFloat32" d:alt_encoding="000000000000F03F" d:precision="string">1</MaximumValue>
<BriefDescription d:type="cDeltaString">Light up Lamps</BriefDescription>
<DetailedDescription d:type="cDeltaString">Light up Lamps</DetailedDescription>
<ApplyToConsist d:type="cDeltaString">eTrue</ApplyToConsist>
<HUDControlID d:type="sUInt32">0</HUDControlID>

You want to change that 1 to a 2, like this;

<ControlName d:type="cDeltaString">Headlights</ControlName>
<DefaultValue d:type="sFloat32" d:alt_encoding="0000000000000000" d:precision="string">0</DefaultValue>
<MinimumValue d:type="sFloat32" d:alt_encoding="0000000000000000" d:precision="string">0</MinimumValue>
<MaximumValue d:type="sFloat32" d:alt_encoding="000000000000F03F" d:precision="string">2</MaximumValue>
<BriefDescription d:type="cDeltaString">Light up Lamps</BriefDescription>
<DetailedDescription d:type="cDeltaString">Light up Lamps</DetailedDescription>
<ApplyToConsist d:type="cDeltaString">eTrue</ApplyToConsist>
<HUDControlID d:type="sUInt32">0</HUDControlID>

Save the file once done editing and your headlights should now work.

What was happening here is that for some reason, when they changed things for TS2015, they changed this one number that tried to tell the simulator that the loco only had 1 headlight setting, when in fact it has 2 (Front and Rear). I had noticed that when in cab view, the headlight switch was going back to the number 2 setting (Rear) even if the HUD said you were on Headlight 1 (Front). With this fix, you should now see the switch move to straight down for Headlight 1 (Front) and then move back for Headlight 2 (Rear).

I would upload the fixed file for people to just download and install, but I'm using the "Big_Boy_physics_update" files. It would be better if someone could do this with the stock files and then upload the fix for others whom might not have RW Tools to do this themselves.

As for the cylinder cocks and Turbo_Generator_Smoke, I'm thinking the problems have got to also be in the file like this, I'm just not sure as to what they should be changed to.

That's the same issue that was with the SD75 headlight, but as far as I could tell, it's been that way since 2014. However they still worked...
I'm suspicious that a core game change, actually exposed faults in the engine bins. In any case DTG should fix it but probably won't.
That's why I haven't bought anything in months.
The more I get into the files the more I understand that these issues aren't difficult to fix either.

I can deal with a new product having a bug much easier than one I own getting broken later on, and then they won't fix it.
I'd heard about that when I first got into this game/sim, but didn't understand until 2+ years on. !*hp*!

You can tease all you want Buzz, but some scenarios are made for night driving and then you can't see anything at night with those engines after they foul them up.
Or even bad weather scenarios for that matter.

Go here and read through to get your smoke emitters to work. *!!wink!!*
And thanks for the headlight tip. I would have never found it.

Thanks for the quick replies guys. And thank you XDriver for that link to how to fix the CylCocks.bin and Turbo_Generator_Smoke.bin!!!

And for the sake of making things a little easier for people, below is the quote from XDriver's link that tell's you what to do. You can do this same thing for these files in the RSC/BigboyPack01/Particles folder. Only in the Big Boy, the CylCocks.bin file is either named Cyl Cocks Smoke.bin or Cyl_Cocks_Smoke.bin.

XDriver wrote:
I played with the RSC Challenger CylCocks.bin file and changed the iParticleEmissionRollOffRate from 2 to 0 and now they work. Also opened the Turbo_Generator_Smoke.bin which didn't show anymore either and changed the same thing in it. iParticleEmissionRollOffRate from 2 to 0, now it shows. At least it's a start.

Yes thank you.
I'll have to take a looksie at my Challenger bins. I bet it's the exact same problems.

Later that day...
I got my emitters to work on the Challenger, but the cylinder cocks are out of sync. They used to emit a solid stream of steam when on.

Yes, I have the same thing happening. But it's like XDriver said in his post, "At least it's a start."
