No longer able to prevent updates to TS2014

Unread postby MontanaRails » Sat Sep 13, 2014 7:31 pm

Another oddity I just discovered.

In preparation for Monday's "update," I wanted to disable the automatic updates of the game in the Steam interface. However...this is what I now see as my only options:

Can anyone else confirm? It seems the only way to prevent updates to TS2014 is to take all of Steam offline - great if TS2014 is your only Steam game. Not so great if you have other games you want to get updates for. Or....I suppose you could remember to always take Steam offline before launching TS2014...a real pain and an impending 'gotcha.'

Many makes this such a big deal. If you want to run 2014 offline you can. I have let every update happen for the last four years and the world has never come to a end. I certainly recommend a backup because it is a great idea even when there is not a update. Let's not make this a bigger deal than it is. The people that always have problems will have problems and the rest of us....................................

Right you are, of course. I do have several complete backups (always try to keep two about a month apart). I know (and have) run offline before. So this isn't a critical thing - I just found it odd, considering I remembered reading that DTG stated that the update was 'optional.'

Since the dawn of Railworks on Steam, I always remembered there being a "Do not update this game" option. I was just surprised.

You can not stop any games from updating anymore. Steam decided you need the latest version of whatever you have about a month ago.

They didn't tell anyone. Lots of people ticked off about it in many other game forums. Especially people who had it turned off due to bandwidth restrictions of their country/city/location's rules.

I'd like to add, that the optional update was referring to the new Unreal Engine 4 version of Train Simulator under development.
New build. i7-7700k, MSI Z270 Gaming M5 Mobo, Hyper 212 Evo, Corsair DDR4 3200 Mhz RAM, Klipsch Pro Mediea 2.1 Speakers, Samsung 850 Evo SSD, HAF XM Case, Asus Strix GTX 1070 and Cooler Master Storm XT Keyboard.
Slick with Pretty Rainbow Colors.
