I suspect you are right that fixing this will not be a high priority.
If you look at DTG's store , all the screenshots of the cab forward clearly show the white panel and missing number on the right-hand side of the cab.

They were obviously happy to release it with that "feature" clearly shown, and I was happy to buy it as advertised ( in a sale :D ).

..so because it's old, they don't have anyone with the ability to code a fix? I wonder if the (recently released) Tehachapi ES44 brake issue is "too old" also? !*hp*!

Has DTG ever gone back to fix something? With the exception of Donner Pass, only because it was so laughably bad at launch. !!det!!

Rarely they have fixed glaringly bad problems or broken/unusable DLCs, but other than that, literally nothing ever gets fixed. It's up to the community.

Click on jlms48 link above and the issue shows up in the promotion photos of the loco on Steam so DTG must of know about it from the start and have done nothing about it.

I own this loco. I have spent quite a bit of time combing thro' the relevant blueprint ,texture, and script files but I can't find any reference to these backlit number plates. I have used obvious search terms: number, light, plate etc. Can anybody suggest another name for them I could try? They are not listed child objects.
I suspect the fix may be trivial but pinpointing the error or omission is not.

The problem might be the bin file or a misspelled texture

The characteristics of the problem are:
1 The issue only occurs at night when the numbers are backlit.
2 Looking very closely at the problem area in the world editor you can see that the bright white panel is just in front of the actual number plate on the right hand side of the cab, rather than behind it.
3 If you zoom in very close to the white panel the numbers show . Changing the viewing angle slightly has the same effect.

If these backlit number plates were clearly named child objects it would be fairly easy to find and correct the problem. The coordinates of the backlit panel would just need to be moved back a little so that it lies behind the metal number plates. BUT that is not the case and finding the relevant lines of code which need correcting is a needle in a haystack job.

I was always taught that it was good practice to annotate code to help understand it or debug it. There is virtually no annotation in these .bin and .geo files.

.bin files and .geopcdx files are data files.
They are generated by authoring tools.
I wouldn't expect to find any comments in these.

Thanks for that clarification Chacal.
To me data = mainly numbers and code = mainly words, but I stand corrected.

Just revisiting this to see if anyone has found a fix, also is there a way to reduce the volume of the safeties? They are extremely loud and stay that way even after the loco passes.
