Remembering too, that if you want to see the route in RW_Tools, Name My Route, etc all you have to do is to extract the routeproperties.xml file with something like 7-zip. No need to extract the whole .ap file just for that!

Both are correct. To read files using RWTools and installing some Third Party Routes that use files from other Routes like Sherman Hill or NEC etc. I think when Otto was alive he talked about this issue. It is OK as everyone has an opinion and that is fine. I can live with it.

Dave,

It's not a matter of opinion. It's a matter of FACT.

If you want to run third party routes in TSXXXX that use files that are in .ap files YOU DO NOT HAVE TO UNPACK THE .AP FILES.

If you want to run a route through RW_Tools and you want to be absolutely sure that you have all of the necessary files, even if they're in .ap files, you need to unpack the .ap files.

OK, it is your FACT.

It's really not important. I know how my System works when I add things. It is what it is.

@ everyone except Dave.

If you're thinking of following Dave's approach and unpacking .ap files because you think you need to to get third-party route to run in TSXXXX, DON'T. It's not necessary. As long as you have all of the prerequisites, TSXXXX will be able to find the necessary files in the .ap files.
