Same here, I use both the crap cleaner and the registry tool on a weekly basis.

The Steam-client may be much improved since you tried it last, Hawk.

There's also "small-mode", which is less-intrusive, and of course, "Offline Mode", in which you don't have to connect to Steam in order to play RailWorks.

You can also set RailWorks to "Do not automatically update" via the Steam settings as well.

Myself, I haven't had any real problems with Steam and I find it a convenience in many ways and I like some of it's features.

I agree. I really didn't think CCleaner had anything to do with it.
Whatever it is, I'm not too concerned about it. I just won't install RW. *!!wink!!*

BTW! I'm not looking for help with this or any answers. I was just commenting about it. *!greengrin!*

Nope! I'm not the least bit afraid of it. I just flat out don't like it. Big difference. *!!wink!!*

The last time I tried RW and Steam was about 2 months ago. I doubt there has been that much improvement since then.

I am aware of the other options in Steam, but the problem is, they don't work either. When the Steam client decides it needs rebuilding, RW will not work at all, whether I'm running offline or not.

Folks, I do apologize for my earlier post. I wasn't expecting my comments to receive so many replies. I really wasn't looking for that, and I sure didn't mean to get the thread !**off-top**! *!embar*!

No Worries.

Thought I'd throw out another little tid-bit regarding the Steam-client and RailWorks;

I've come to the conclusion (at least I think), that in part the way the Steam-client works, as well as the way the RailWorks Launcher window works, is they are partially a "wrapper" that somewhat relies on the Internet Explorer (I.E.) browser engine to work properly.

So, it could be possible, if you're having some troubles with IE, or if IE is too much out of date, then it could potentially cause conflicts or problems with the Steam-Client and RailWorks launcher.

Then again, that may not have anything to do with your Steam / RailWorks issues.
It just seems odd that where most Users don't seem to have any problems with the Steam / RailWorks launching as intended.

The rare times I do use IE 8, I don't seem to have any problems with it. I typically only use IE to test web site work.
Now that you mention Steam's possible dependency to IE, that's even more reason for me to avoid it. !*roll-laugh*!

Yeah, I hear ya. But, I guess Steam-Client and RailWorks-launcher "dependency" on IE is due to IE tends to already come installed with every version of Windows anyways and tied-into the Windows OS.

I use FireFox browser for most all of my internet-browsing needs, and rarely use IE (perhaps for testing some of my websites).

So, as I rarely ever use IE, I hadn't updated it for a couple of years, I was still on version 6 for the longest time.

Anyways, after some updates a while back (half-a-year ago or so), perhaps to the Steam-Client and/or RailWorks, it seemed my RailWorks launcher was a bit "messed-up".

After trying a few other things that didn't fix the issue, I decided to update IE to version 8 along with updating Flash & Java for IE. After that I haven't really had any problems of note with the Steam-client or RailWorks launcher since.

But since you're already using IE 8, then your problems might not have anything to do with that. Though I suppose you can always try the clearing-IE-internet-cache / junk-files / cookies and such, have your Flash and Java for IE up-to-date, etc... and see if any of that would help.

I don't have Flash installed on my computer, and will never have it installed. I have no use for anything made by Adobe.
My Java is up to date.
Since I don't have Flash installed, and Steam works for a couple of days, I doubt that's the problem.
