Just a quick note: I received a reply to the ticket I opened at Dovetail Support about this problem. Their technician asked me to send him a copy of a Crash Dump (dmp) file, which I've done. Could it be that those files are readable in some way?

Tom
.ap files are ONLY for DTG/RSC routes and scenarios.
Workshop scenarios just download as a file to the scenario folder of a particular route.
The reason I use RW-Tools to delete WS files is that they are color-coded in RW-Tools and easy to spot and delete en masse.
Mike's done a great job there!

I received another reply from Dovetail Support this morning, which said that the crash report I had sent them indicated that the loading problem might be caused by a corrupted workshop folder; specifically, the technician suggested that I navigate to Steam\steamapps\workshop\content and delete the 24010 folder contained there. I did that and TS is now starting normally, I'm very happy to report.

So, Dovetail technicians know how to decipher crash report files and can thus provide suggestions of how to use them to fix problems.

Hurrah and thanks to Dovetail Support!

Great news as well as Dovetail seeming to be able to read crash reports which they had previously said no one could read. Happy driving!!

Now that I can run TS again, my thoughts have turned toward the possible danger of corrupted Steam Workshop items. A few days before this mini-crisis occurred, I had subscribed to several new scenarios, one or more of which could have caused the problem, but before the ultimate solution arrived from DTG I had cancelled all of my subscriptions and thus have no way of knowing which of them was the culprit.

I don't want to start the latest chicken little crisis (motto: When confused or in doubt:run in circles, scream and shout!), but this incident does make me leery of subscribing. Where do subscribed items reside in our personal Steam-TS installations? What kind of security checks does Steam run on uploaded items before releasing them to public use?

!*don-know!*

They reside in the scenario folder for a particular route.
If you use RW-Tools "edit scenarios" ALL WS (Career FR QD) items are color coded.
As I have said before unsubscribing a WS scenario ins STEAM will not necessarily remove it from your TS2016 installation - that needs to be done via Windows or using RW_Tools.
