Just for fun I'll try some different combinations tonight. I know my 'dev' version which is where I am working on the Lafayette Route loads a whole lot faster than the regular TS2015 does. It only has the one route in it and a very much more limited group of assets.

It'll be interesting to see what you find. I would think you'd see a difference, what with so many fewer files to load. Although the sim seems to handle large quantities of files well.

Generally, I think TS15 loads and works pretty well if, as you said above, you have a computer with the right specs. Coming from the good ol' MSTS days, when I go into the route editor and add new tracks with a couple of mouse clicks or load it down by rapidly filling up an entire yard with rolling stock without the sim crashing or even - for the most part - stuttering in Drive, it's impressive. Yes there is definitely a "Yin and Yang" aspect to DTG and their products, but on balance I personally feel it works pretty well, at least given the current game engine and tech. in use.

OK here's what I found.
dev(2014) 8 seconds to load game. 12 seconds to load a scenario.
TS2015 27 seconds from a cold start. It might have been checking with Steam about something. Marias Pass bunch of rolling stock 50 seconds. Changed scenarios same route 20 seconds.
Went to a different route Stevens Pass 18 seconds.
Closed 2015. Open 2015 only 20 seconds. Went to initial scenario in Marias Pass. Load time was only 10 seconds.

I did no cache clearing during these tests.

Those are impressive times. And I hadn't thought about having a developer's copy separate and apart from the main playing copy. Good idea. What are your computer specs.?

As for the possible Steam-induced delay, allegedly there was a TS15 update issued either yesterday or today. Maybe it was that. I haven't found any info on it yet.

Intel i5-3570K CPU@3.40GHz, 16GB, 64bit Windows7 running a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760. Both my TS2015 and TS2014 (TS2014 is where my dev is on this computer) are on a Samsung SSD 850 250GB.

More than ample for sims like this. I like the nVIDIA card. I tend to prefer them over ATI.

But I had no choice. When I "wheeled and dealed" with the Dell sales rep. last year, she put this package together for me at a very good price, but I had to take the ATI card. They offered no higher end nVIDIA cards at the time for this machine. Of course I can always swap cards. But despite dire warnings of disaster from a certain very knowledgeable, well-known member of that other train sim website that only an nVIDIA would do, I have had no problems whatsoever with this Radeon and TS15.

Thanks for the feedback Buzz.
