For those interested in reskinning, I have altered RW_Tools so that it will now convert .tgpcdx files in the new format to .dds for reskinning.

Instructions are as before, the files are automatically changed to HC_IMAGE_FORMAT_COMPRESSED_EXPL_ALPHA and then back to HC_IMAGE_FORMAT_COMPRESSED_INTERP_ALPHA when saved.

v4.0.23 is on my site now.

The jigsaw is an automatic uvw unwrap. It makes it easy for the modeler, but harder for the painter. I'd be willing to be that they are using a 3D paint program where they paint directly on the 3d model so the jigsaw is invisible to them. If you have the tools to easily deal with it there isn't an issue and it saves time/money, important for anyone who does this for a living, but it can be painful for texture artists :)

So can the model be put back into a 3D program and painted after it has been released as a package?

I just moved this over here. Surely of all you smart people on this forum someone can figure out how to unravel this mystery.

Oh, I'm not touching this with a ten foot pole. I have my own opinions on this subject which I will keep to myself for the time being.

Its how Ricardo does his models, and that won't change. Its nothing to do with RSCs decisions.

I haven't seen any freeware repaints of SMM's loco or Eyein12's locos or any of the other dozens of available units lately? Why are we obsessing about this one model? Is this the only darn thing you want to drive or is it just fun to trash RSC right now? Come on folks. Let's get back to having some fun.

We are not obsessing about this one model. It just happens to be one of many that have these new textures. It is the new texture format we are obsessing about. They change the whole process of repainting.

The superliners that come with the F40, everything on the Sherman Hill route. Have not looked at any UK stuff yet. But it doesn't really matter. I figured this one out pretty quick just by comparing two different textures in RW Tools the EXPL part was the only difference in the header information. So I changed them to be the same and it worked. !DUH!
