MCSA V1.3

Unread postby ValleyBoy » Sat Oct 29, 2011 9:34 am

I have the MCSA-1920s installed and working correctly but I'm having a problem getting the modern version installed. I click on the .exe file and make sure the address to my Railworks location is correct. After a few moments of a DOS screen I get a drop-down that says the installation is complete but the route does not appear in the Package Manager list or in the Sim. I've had a similar problem installing other add-ons with .exe installation files as opposed to the .rwp type.
Any suggestions to help me with this problem will be appreciated.
Brian Wilson.

I found that sometimes you get a "Railworks" folder in side your "Railworks" folder. See if Your route is in the "Railworks\Railworks\...." Folder. Seems like if the install path is X:\Program files\Steam\SteamApps\Railworks" the exe is now adding a new railworks folder. At least that's what's been happening to me.

Samwolf:
Thanks for your reply.
I searched thoroughly for a duplicate "Railworks" but couldn't find one but your idea urged me to keep trying and I finally discovered I could drag-and-drop all the files for the route in Win Explorer into their appropriate spots and was able to get it working that way.
Still no idea why those .exe installation files don't work on my computer.
Thanks again.

Are you right-clicking the .exe and clicking "Run as administrator"? The program files folders have extra protections that others don't and may be part of the problem.

When I right click the .exe I don't get the "Run as admin" choice in the drop down box. I'll look into this further. In the mean time the work-around of dragging and dropping in explorer seems to work so I'll use that for now.
Thanks for your continued interest.

This usually means you are not logged in as Administrator. Make sure your User account is set as admin, or set up an admin account to use for installs like these if you don't want your normal, everyday use account to be an admin account.

I've checked and the only user account in my computer is me and I'm listed as Computer Administrator. I don't know why I don't get the "run as admin" choice with a right click on an .exe file unless its that as the only account in my computer I'm automatically logged on as administrator when I boot up. If that's the case it still begs the question of why the .exe install files are not working for me.

OK, what happens if you right click on the Railworks Desktop icon? That should offer to Run as Administrator. Is it just these .exe's from the DLC you are having trouble with? Have you tried any other.exe's?

After looking around a bit I discovered I can get the "Run as...." prompt in a drop down by right clicking on "Steam" as opposed to "RailWorks". I discovered that I had never set a password for my log-on so whether I was operating as Admin. is open to question. However, now that I am undoubtedly an admin seems to make no change to the non-operation of .exe files when I try to install this type of add-on to RW2012. I've never encountered such a problem with any other .exe files.
On further investigation I find that one of the items I'm having the problem with ( RSWESYWK.exe a scenario for the C&N from RWA) is missing a file so its possible my glitch is with particular items rather than with .exe files in general. I'll try copying the missing file from another scenario in order to get the scenario to work. Failing this solution it may not be worthwhile to pursue this further; I'll just get along without the offending DLCs.
Thank you; I do appreciate your efforts to help me with this problem.
