Switching locomotives

Question. Is there a way in free roam to switch between trains to drive?

Are you referring to an existing free-roam, or one that you are creating?

Either way, it depends on whether the locomotive has an engineer icon assigned to it in the editor. If it's an existing free-roam, you can still check by going into the editor and seeing which locos have the icon on them (the round blue and white icon with what looks like a cameo of an airline pilot). You should be able to assign the engineer icon to any loco or lead-loco, then save and exit the editor. Now you should be able to run the scenario and select between any of the locos that possess the icon. The only time this gets tricky, is if you run a loco outside the world camera radius and want to switch to another loco back at the start point; I've never tried it, so not sure how to go about it, or if it's even possible. I've only switched between locos while they are sitting in a yard while testing repaints. As long as the icon has been assigned, all you need to do is go to external camera view and mouse-click on the loco you wish to drive. Again, I must note having done this only with parked locos; I've never tried it while moving... I suppose it might result in a runaway train (if it's possible).

A final note about the engineer icon: they have a nasty habit of disappearing after being assigned. For example, once you place the loco, assign the icon, and go about building a consist.. so before you save and exit, always do a final check to ensure the engineer icons are still attached to the intended locos.

I am talking in this specific situation, bring in a driven train to a destination and stop. Then go to another nearby locomotive and rip the train you just brought in. Another situation add a helper to the rear of a train you have been driving. All this being done in a free roam that would be created in the editor. All locomotives have driver icons. I am not sure the -jumptrain command will work. I think it is only for AI trains. One other thought, can AI trains interact with driven trains such as add a helper in a standard or other scenario? If it can not work then these attributes would be nice to add to TSC if possible.

The "allowJump" command line option might be what you are looking for. I never tested it in free-roam though.

Mopre info over here.....
