Uncouple the cars -- how??

Unread postby cnbalasub » Mon Sep 17, 2018 10:17 pm

This evening I did uncoupled the cars but as soon as the train is ready to go and the couplers coupled together again. I am not sure how to stay uncople the cars after click at the bottom of the F5 HUD then the train is ready to move. I have tried this three or four times and give up with this.I am not sure how to do the right way to uncouple the cars then the train is ready to move.

Usually if you put some power to pull away then click the uncouple it will work.

Oh OK thanks Buzz and I did myself a mistake like the train stop then I click to uncouple then get the train move and no wonder why the couplers got back together again which should be uncouple. Will try this tomorrow sometime on one of the Raton Pass scenario.

Thanks again,

Track grades usually play a part in this.

You can also put the handbrake on a couple of cars so the consist does not roll forward. Then pull away.

There are several ways to do it, the first two how we do it in the real railroad.

A) Stop the train, and as Bob said, set a sufficient number of handbakes on the cut you're leaving behind, uncouple and pull away.

B) Stop the train, put a 20lb set on it, uncouple, release the brakes then pull away.

C) Stop the train, and as Buzz mentioned, put your loco in Run 1, wait for train to start moving and then uncouple. The cars you're leaving behind "go into emergency" and stop.
