Have been driving steam locos in game but having no luck with engines on this route. Auto Fireman off and using special fireman at level 5 for water and fire.

Completely unable to complete any climb as I end up stalling even when very careful. Tried with one coach less and seemed to be making progress but lco keeps running out of water now - I thought the fireman should handle that on max settings?

Oil fired one - tutorial failed each time as even gentle use extinguishes the fire.

Any extra hints please?

Just keep trying. I tried the special fireman but turned it off and used manual firing. Yes it is a challenge. If doing career scenarios, you can actually go faster than the max speed before you start losing points.

Yea will have another go but really not sure why water runs out when fireman is set at level 5 for water and firing - happened 3 times now

Special fireman helps but you still have to monitor both fire mass and water and when it gets low act accordingly

I leave Auto Fireman on then set the Special Fireman to the blue needle pointing up for passenger and then two more spots clockwise form heavy freight. I haven't had any trouble yet. Oh I also set the reverser to about 38% then modulate the speed with the throttle.
