MLWAudio/Searchlight Sims - RailDriver Support Thread

Unread postby bnsfsubdivision » Thu Sep 01, 2016 8:13 am

We will need the help of someone who actually owns a RailDriver and has experience with setting up custom key maps for it. As far as I know you need the engine script to assign the right keys and numbers to the buttons. Since we own the source files it'd be no problem to pass on the important bits of Information to someone who could then create a new key map for it.

Anyone who is interested, please feel free to either let us know in this thread or via pm. We can offer a free key for the GE GEVO 12 or any future pack in exchange for the help.

Thanks for the interest.

Here's the deal.....

I've owned my RailDriver for a number of years now. I glanced at the key mapping function of the included Macroworks software when I first got it. I think I vaguely remember trying to tweak a couple things in it for Run 8. Not cuz they did anything wrong. I was bored and curious and simply wanted to tinker with it for the hell of it. I tried to add and re-map some of the RailDriver's function keys to different functions or add new ones. I think I got the tweaks to work, but I ultimately just used the default mappings in the end. I had did it merely to dabble in it out of curiosity. The default mappings were already fine.

Same with Trainz 12. Cuz it already ran just fine with the default mappings, I didn't bother tweaking anything with it.

I was gonna try and tweak it for Train Simulator for the combined throttle locomotives having issues with the RailDriver, but never really bothered when someone quickly pointed out on the forums that it was an issue with the scripting of the DLC and the way Train Simulator handles inputs for certain functions.

I painted the walls of many rooms in my house and have been making many improvements in preparation to sell it. So I packed my RailDriver away in a box. But it would take me no more than 5-10 minutes to find the box it's in.

I would be prepared to possibly help you with this. I'd have to re-learn how to tweak mappings, as it's been years since I last tried messing with that function of my RailDriver.

I probably own most of the GEVOs in the game. I think the only one I bought that wasn't included with the route by default was the ES44DC for the Pacific Surfliner route. I know for sure I don't own the NS GEVO heritage pack.

Also keep in mind that, while I have knowledge in computer programming, I have no knowledge on how to program specifically in Lua. I've never tweaked blueprints or anything of that nature. I've just allowed others with more passion and knowlege of it to do the work and have simply downloaded their tweaks like everyone else.

But I'm willing to dip my toe in the water and work with you to try and come up with some solutions. You'll have to have patience with my newb skills when it comes to tweaking all things Train Simulator and RailDriver. But I have a RailDriver and you don't...... so it's a starting point. Maybe others with RailDrivers would be more helpful. Who knows!?!?

As for getting a possible sound pack in return? LOL! Well... you'd have to be the judge as to if my efforts were worth that. !*roll-laugh*! I'm just trying to be helpful more than trying to get a free $15 sound pack that most people can easily afford.

I'd say wait a couple days to see what the response is from others and we can go from there. It's been awhile since I've dusted off the RailDriver. It's been packed away since I moved a number of things to my garage so I would have more working space inside to make improvements to the house in preparation of eventual sale. !!howdy!!

Or just lend your RD to a member of the team for a few weeks.
As a bonus, you won't have to move it to your new house.

What I have noticed, on occasion is that on initial throttle application in some scenarios, noted this AM in Penn Coal (NS Coal Dist) after installation of V5.1, The Raildriver will work in notched throttle. If the throttle is moved again, the engine will go back to idle (aprox 430 RPM).

Without a proper key-map, you won't be able to get the right results with a RailDriver.

I have installed the Raildriver interface software from Chris (Cobra One) at UK Trainsim and it works great. Easy to set up and has lots of remapping options. Best to uninstall Macorworks as they do not play well together.
