Brick wall

Unread postby Mark » Fri Apr 29, 2011 11:47 pm

Hi Guys , I have hit a brick wall with the Uk Class 156 supersprinter DMU

I want to edit the destination blinds in it, especially for each model, as not all the liveries run on the routes that have destinations

example Scotrail do not run to Paddington and Reading, so I was wanting to customise each livery destantion blind, unfortuantely I can't figure out how to do this

Also newer versions of this train and similar models (class 158) use LED lights for the destination blinds, would it be possible to add those in??

If anyone knows can I get a little help here
and when I ask for help I mean like the for dummies books that are on sale

need to really dumb it down lol

thanks in advance ;)
My scenarios are short, but they leave plenty of room for scope. Time to stretch to other routes I think

I've put up a repaint tutorial here: http://railworks.wikia.com/wiki/Repaint_Tutorial

The texture files for Class 156 are located here: ..\Railworks\Assets\Oovee\BRClass156Pack01\RailVehicles\Diesel\BRClass156\(LIVERY)\Textures
You would need to edit the Class156_Destinations.TgPcDx with the methods described above *!!wink!!* Hope it helps :D
You can change the look of the lights on some other texture (sorry too lazy to look which one), but not the color or the shine of the light as it is specified in the 3D model itself.

LED indicators are supposed to be arriving at some point with the Oovee scotrail pack.

I use 57pt Rail Alphabet ( actually the freeware British rail Dark font from RMWeb ) with 181/203/90 RGB for colour. Layer effects Satin and a pattern overlay to make it look a bit crumpled, and a background of 24/28/24 with a 15/12/15 screen layer to give some stuck-to-glass blobs. You can fit 11 destinations in. Don't forget a) to reuse the original alpha channel, and b) to black out the original alpha text and use your new text instead. What I do is select the text area, click the green channel, copy-merged, click the alpha channel and paste, and then use Threshold on it. That's all photoshop specific though.

Alpha channel for the image on the left should look like the bit on the right.

Hi guys thanks for the replies

Am I correct in thinking that I need to get more programs then? Because if this is the case Railworks is really beginning to annoy me , too many different applications needed to do different things, I already have nearly 30GB of stuff for it and it uses most of my HD space, I dont want to turn my system into Railworks only because I need a lot of other stuff for diffferent things I am involved in, but liek I said Railworks is eating up the majority of my memory and I can't justify getting more programs for it. What started as a cheap game off the shelf is quickly turning into a financial nightmare !*not-ok*!

You can get RWTools for a minimum of 2 US$, the two linked in my guide are freeware. RWTools would be a one click operation if it worked - doesn't for me - with the other two it's 2 minutes more of work. And both take together around 15-20 MB of space on your harddrive.

I already have RWTools ;)
I downloaded the other 2 in your guide, didnt help any lol , all that happens when i try to change the destination blinds is a space going over the top of the existing ones ,i don't want to mess around too much because I know I will break it completely :( !*not-ok*!

If you wish to edit textures, GIMP is a good program. It's 99.3 MB on my Hard Drive, and free.
If you wish to make objects, use Blender. It's 31.6 MB, and free.
If you wish to make real world routes (faster and easier), download Google Earth, 82.5 MB, free; RWDecal, free/donationware, 22.9MB; RWTools, $2, 12.4MB

That's a total of 248.7MB (~0.242 GB), 5 powerful programs, and a whopping total of two dollars. These allow you to make literally anything you want for RailWorks.

I have all those programs installed, except blender, using google I just cant seem to find the program, all I get are youtube links to videos on how to use it, nothing telling me where to get it from, and having looked at them all I guess i am just not smart enough for them, they all confused me , so I have given up with it, and I am going back to scenario creations , who knows maybe one day I will manage to figure it out, but just now im afraid to say I am defeated !*don-know!*

Hiya, this is where you find Blender 2.49b http://download.blender.org/release/

It's no longer on the main site because it has been replaced with v2.57. However, the exporter requires 2.49b
