Kind of new to TS so bear with me - Sound Question

Unread postby Metro4050 » Sat Feb 27, 2016 11:44 pm

Using MSTS and Open Rails for the past 15 years I haven't logged in many hours on TS2016. With a new gaming rig I've decided to make TS2016 my primary sim. It has it's share of quirks however, one of those being sound. The way sound works in this game can be jarring. As the train approaches the sound will suddenly pop in and when it passes it will pop out. There's really no gradual decrease in volume as a train passes. Well, the exception so far being Krellnuts sounds which fade nicely with distance. Also adjusting the camera can sometimes have an undesirable effect on sound as well. Turning the camera around near a train can cause it to go silent. Being new I have to assume there are ways to fix and adjust these things I haven't come across yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have none of what you describe in TS2016. Perhaps if I move this to problems and peculiarities someone can help with your particular problem since it is not really a problem with 2016 but with your setup.

Can you elaborate on the 'turning the camera around near the train can cause it to go silent' part? Does this seem to happen with any particular loco or route?

I know what you are talking about. You need to check your sound settings in control panel. I believe this sim supports 5.1 surround and if you don't have a 5.1 setup when you pan around the train the sound will fade to almost nothing depending on your view angle. Check in control panel and make sure stereo is set if you are using a simple left / right speaker setup. Note this is in control panel and not an in game setting.

Thanks for your responses guys and sorry for my late reply. I'm using headphones now so the pop in and pop out is not nearly as jarring. Using custom freight sounds however does cause annoying cut in/cut out as the transition isn't smooth as what we saw in MSTS. I wish there was a way to alias the Krellnut sounds to all US rolling stock no matter the publisher as there are number of asset items that aren't using the Krellnut sounds and they don't blend seamlessly at all.

First off I assume you have done this right?

Then you have installed the Racetrack sound update?

What do you have left that doesn't have the wagon sounds?

I don't have the Racetrack route. The latest update to the Krellnuts sounds I believe is the one for the Miami rolling stock. The equipment that I know off hand that doesn't use the Krellnut sounds are GreatNortherners and a few auto parts boxcars I have that are reskins from the NS High Nose pack.

Do you have the GNWagonPack01?

Is that the freeware GN pack on the Golden Age of Rails site? I don't have a GNWagonPack01 folder in my Assets, just a GNRy.

I've replaced all sounds with Krellnut sounds. Can't believe how easy it was. Literally just dropping and renaming the proxyxml file. So ashamed. *!sad!* I'm assuming the AP Pack is the UK equivalent.
