Locos replaced Routes in menu

I can see you scratching your head saying, "What does he mean by this?"

This is the weirdest thing I've ever run into with the RW menu system. Here is what happened. I D/L'd a 3rd party route from UKTS called the London Circle Line. It was devoid of a route picture. Wanting to put something in its place, after selecting a Standard scenario, I clicked on the "Change" icon on the menu page to see what would happen. You also need to know that I have been using, without fault for about 6 months now, the hybrid 2014/2015 menu set up by "JustRight" found at UKTS. I suspect many of you are also using it as it is so much easier to use than the 2015 menu concocted by DTG.

Well, after clicking the "Change" route icon, nothing happened. So I decided to use RW Tools to take a look at the Assets folder. RWT tells me there is NO assets folder with this route. I was aware that using the 2014 menu required a Preload folder for the Metadata & TcPgDx files and that it doesn't necessarily have to be in its own Assets folder. So long as there is a Preload folder somewhere, RW will find it and load it on start up. So I went back to the menu to select another Standard scenario from this route, but instead of showing me scenario's of the route(s), it showed me all the loco's in RW and which scenario & route that the loco could be found. Exactly opposite of what it should be.

Thinking I might have a corrupted scaleform file, I asked a fellow simmer to send me his hybrid menu scaleform file. Installed it but no correction. His menu lists Standard scenario's via the route, not via the loco. I have re-booted RW & my PC several times with no success to correct the problem. I really don't want to do a "Verify Cache" at this point although this may be the only way to correct the problem. So there it is. Any ideas? BTW, the 2015 menu does show the Standard scenario's via their routes.

Thanks

Chris

It's pretty clear to me that the hybrid menu is at fault, in addition to your tinkering after installing it. Running a cache verification should get rid of the hybrid menu and, hopefully, the changes that you made to it. Then you can have the fun of starting all over again, but perhaps you should contact the hybrid menu's inventor about your problem. His contact information should be in the hybrid menu's Read-me file.

The hybrid menu is in use by many train simmers, including myself. There is an extensive post on it over at UKTS. http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... u#p1721309. I have used it without a single problem for over 6 months and you are right, it was an errant key stroke on my part (aka tinkering) that led to this situation. What I did affected some other RW file that is associated with the menu system and it was not in the scaleform folder as evidenced by a copy & paste of another simmers hybrid scaleform folder. When I deleted mine and added his, the problem was not solved. His works perfectly on his system and I trust his word when he says it does. I finally bit the bullet and did a Verify Cache which gave me back the 2015 scaleform folder and menu. I then renamed the 2015 scaleform folder and inserted his copy of the hybrid 2014/2015 scaleform folder, and the problem was corrected. Everything back to normal in the menu system that I had been using as such for the last 6 months. God only knows what file got corrupted.

Chris, a bit late now, but I guess you could have used Windows Explorer to search for files by date of update, to see if that highlighted the recently changed file that was causing the problem (as it would have been one of the last ones updated). But water under the bridge now :(

I must admit, calls of "always backup" and "when editing, always take a copy first" (guilty, Sir!) serve no purpose if the erroneous edit has been made accidentally on a file outside the folder you are actually working on!

A mystery.
