The very first locos used on Queensland Railways ( QR ) were 4 small 2-4-0 “A” Class steam locos that were built by the Avonside Engine Co, Bristol, England in 1864. These later became the A10 Class, the 10 being the cylinder size of 10 inches.
In 1865 the following year, 4 more were built by Neilson & Co Ltd in Glasgow, Scotland and classified as the “B” Class. No 6 was one of these 4 which were different from the first 4 in that the wheel configuration was changed to 0-4-2 with the trailing axle being of the Adams radial type.
These “B” Class locos were later reclassified as the A10 Class in approx 1890. No 6 entered service with Queensland Railways on the 20th August 1866.
This beautiful little loco still runs main line excursions to this very day…… I am planning to go for a run in her sometime at the end of this year , hopefully.
Here is a Youtube link I found showing No 6 going for a run in 2008. Select 480p or higher to get better quality of the footage.
732 running with her and shown below is a PB15 Class ( 4-6-0 ) that were mainly used for Passenger Services and still is active also.
As seen in the video footage...everybody wants to ride in the cab...
