Tuskeegee Airmen Memorial

This is the Tuskeegee Airmen Memorial I am working on right now. I am in the process of putting all their names on the two black slabs in the rear. They weight 7.5 tons each. Your looking at $500,000.

That is incredible! My daughter just started 7th grade at a new Middle School here in Omaha named after one of them, Alfonza W. Davis.

Sewickley Cemetery in Sewickley, PA (Beaver county), about 15 miles NW of Pittsburgh or right down the street from me.

Pres. Obama is supposed to even show up.

I will take some pictures once it is all assembled on site.

Nice, Bob! I was honored to meet Lt. Col. Bob Friend, the oldest surviving member of the legendary Tuskegee Airmen, at the "Spirit of '45" celebration last Saturday down at the USS Iowa. These guys deserve a memorial.

Thanks kindly for this one, Bob. This one's personal: my late father in law flew B-24s with the 15thAF 98thBG, and they were escorted by the Red Tails quite a number of times. Those guys have definitely earned it.

My boss told me today that ceremonies are sept. 15th! I will be cutting the letters on the 2 slabs thursday and friday. Only 3 benches are complete. Not sure what else is getting lettered at this time but there sure looks like a lot of other lettering to me! The names are only from Western PA.

Since when were they denied honor and respect? I'm a old guy and they have been on the famous grand men of WW2 since I was a kid.

Because we are just now making them a Memorial. The same fate that Korean War vets were in. They are starting to get Memorials also. America forgets...

The other slab I squatted over picking the letters out and got a blister from dragging my finger over the stencil, boo hoo.
