A letter to CSX

I have a question for all of you. Would you all sign a letter to CSX, asking them to restore SD40-2 #8865 still in Conrail paint, to regular service, while keeping the Conrail paint? Maybe even touching it up? This is something I would like to do. Please comment if you will sign! If I get enough answers, I will write up a letter. Please do NOT make rude comments and be serious! Please respond! !!*ok*!!

Conrail is my favorite fallen flag, and as much as I'd like to see a restored Conrail Locomotive, I doubt a petition signed by a few people would get them to restore a locomotive in Conrail paint. I like CSX, but lets be honest, they're stubborn, and they care more about getting their freight from Point A to B (which isnt a bad thing) than painting an SD40 in different paint to make foamers happy. Hopefully in the future we'll see a locomotive in Conrail paint on CSX's roster though. **!!2cents!!**

Sheesh! Some people's children!

You couldn't be that daft, could you? How about we dispense with the goofy "I want x-railroad to do this" posts?

Some of you guys really make my head hurt. Even worse, I'm completely out of Advil. *!rolleyes!*

Have you considered starting a petition on Change.ORG. Many folks have had success already giving like minds a common site to make a difference.

Daft?...Huh.. I've got a better idea, how about, we instead dispense with the child-like behavior that plagues every single internet forum in existence, and stop attacking people for having the balls to envision a unique idea which challenges the status quo, then present that idea in a public forum in which, they are well aware, lurk numerous grumpy non-thinkers that are pitifully eager to tear down any idea that in any way challenges their comfortable, little, simpleminded world-view.

By the way, I'm very sorry to hear about your unfortunate headaches that occur when you read these kind of paradigm shifting ideas, but trust me, these kind of headaches are good for you. As your world view expands, your brain will become more capable of processing these kind of 'radical' ideas, and the headaches will, hopefully, someday subside! Advil only slows this process, and it also can cause a condition known as "Bowlers Groin". Good Luck on your journey, my friend! !!howdy!!

Someone! Give this man a medal!

Could you then explain what CSX is to gain from this, other than an atta boy from a handful of freckle-faced railfans? Let's be realistic. Any amount of good PR would hardly pay for the paint applied, let alone the maintenance of keeping this (obsolete) piece of equipment in service. Conrail existed purely as a means for keeping two failed railroads from slipping to their graves. Kudos to the feds for helping keep the Eastern railroad system intact. However, that time has passed, thankfully, and the emergence from the ashes of PC and EL hardly elevates Conrail's status to a "heritage" moniker. Nevertheless, It would make more sense to present the above ideas to the Conrail Historical Society, rather than a for-profit corporation such as CSX.

Pardon my grumpy old coot mindset, but I find it much more appealing (and interesting) to challenge the status quo of social and political abnormalities, rather than worry about whether a locomotive is painted blue or not.

To be honest I really dont think this is a good idea, for one, it has a .001% chance of working, two, 8865 is old and needs scrapped or rebuilt for CSX's best interests(moving freight). CSX has already said no to heritage so I highly doubt they will keep 8865 in CR Blue. For that matter I highly doubt it will ever leave Huntington in CR paint. There is a 99% percent chance it will get rebuilt or scrapped withing the next few years, and yes that leaves a 1% but how likely is that(not very).

Sorry to say that but i just dont ever see this happening.

I'm a little bit offended by that comment...

What's the point then? Then we wouldn't ever see it on the rails. Just at a museum. The point is to see CR blue in mainline freight service! And to everyone who says "there's this much chance it will happen" What's the worst that can happen? They say 'no'? OK. Then I go to the CR historical society.

Try not to get your panties in a twist. My comment was simply a innocuous figure of speech for someone from a more gentler and innocent time, albeit perhaps a naive one.

It isn't a derailment. A multi-million dollar corporate machine like CSX don't give two flying farts about what some whiny Bailout Railroad fans say anyways.

Honestly, I can't get BNSF to let me record a locomotive with full PPE and even qualifications as a diesel mechanic while they load test it; yet you think a wimpy petition of 50 people or so would "MAKE" a corporation keep up a rusty, inefficient POS locomotive that according to their figure books, is only worth scrap or a possible rebuild?

Welcome to Corporate America man, if you wanna see a locomotive run on main line in CR paint, railfan NS and their Heritage locomotives.

One of the reasons I don't like CSX. They seem to get along with everybody! Except Railfans!!
