Look what is on my train

So I'm waiting for my Zephyr to pull in Emeryville, see it, notice an odd engine sandwiched in the middle..

Then suddenly it dawned on me what it was. I'll grab some more pics if we get any breaks. There will probably be some professional ones on the sites.. There is a railfan equipped to the hilt on the overhead walkway

I don't know what it is.

It is the brand spanking new ACS-64.. The replacement for the AEM-7. It is #602... I'm going to try to find where she is headed.. Only one of the three is being tested on the NEC..

This morning the observation lounge was sitting in the Oakland Amtrak facility (saw it in passing).

Amtrak put up a post about this today.
http://blog.amtrak.com/2013/06/amtrakcitiessprinter/

Today our new Amtrak Cities Sprinter (ACS-64) locomotive leaves the Siemens rail manufacturing plant in Sacramento to head east for field testing. Equipped with a custom train wrap (check out the sweet photo above), the ACS-64 will travel on our California Zephyr and Capitol Limited routes before arriving at its final destination in Wilmington, Delaware. Once there, the new locmotive will complete a variety of tests along the Northeast and Keystone Corridors.

Sweet. Nice update.. Too bad I'm taking the Cardinal back to 30th street. Still cool to see it. I was supposed to take the SW Chief to Chicago but switched to the Zephyr instead because a roomette was available. Great payoff... Oh and papa. They said they had a mechanical issue and that is why they were late leaving the Oakland yard. My train has a lounge car though.

Some more pics. Sacramento was a "stretch stop".. A Siemens rep is downstairs also. Said the other two units are in Co and have been tested at 135mph and I quote "they get there in a hurry too". He says there is a huge twitter thing about this move and people are being encouraged to post pics of the progress.
