Definitely improved. Next suggested item for consideration, one of the fuzzy microphone covers to stop all the wind noise ;-)
When using a tripod, I usually set the friction level to just hold the camera steady and I also try to refrain from touching the camera/tripod until I actually want to start panning. When panning, I try to sort of lock hand and arm and let the movement be caused by moving my body, you can get much smoother pans that way, assuming you have a panning handle of course. A similar method works reasonably well without tripod, hold the camera with both hands, elbows pressing lightly on your sides, feet pointing to where the pan would be half done then pan with body twists rather than with the hand and arm movements. You can get very smooth pans that way. The newer cameras with the rotatable screen make this method much easier than when you had to look at the small viewer.
