I thought they looked awesome, I know NS has the PR43C but Im not sure about UP. I also think that NS' units don't leave Illinois what I've heard.

I've seen a couple around...impressive locomotives. If you're open to suggestions, how about some diesels reskinned for R.J. Corman. They would look good on Rich Garber's Ohio Steel 2.

That PRLX 3005 is a franken-engine! But for some reason I like it. !**duh*!!

I've always liked CAT powered locomotives, not sure why there aren't more of them around.

I had a look on their wiki page so this info is probably wrong *!greengrin!*
It says the pr30c is build from sd40-2s and the 43 is built from sd50s.
The 30 stands for 3000hp and the 43 for 4300hp.

As far as I understand, Cat bought the EMD motor division from GM a few years back, and a lot of these so called Cat motors are basically EMD's rebadged. Still, Cat diesels are the #1 in the world for heavy machinery. No reason a locomotive can't use one.

Y'all want to see a "Franken Engine", look at the November Trains mag, the new tier 4 GE engine with EGR is a huge beast! 2015 GE Ecomagination demo model was first out the gate, then came UP 9900. That EGR bulge is gonna be a difficult one to model. (rivet counting taken into account !*roll-laugh*! ) http://www.canadianrailwayobservations. ... 9900aw.bmp

Back to the original question, heck, yes, I like these liveries, Mike! !!*ok*!! !*salute*!

If the EGR systems are anything like the ones fitted to cars and trucks then they are going to give nothing but headaches. The inlets get clogged with soot and the engines emissions go through the roof. I worked with them since they started to get fitted about 15 or so years ago in Europe and they haven't improved in that time. I've never seen a system that large before, pretty impressive.

Guess GE already has a maintenance cycle for the filters, etc. Yeah, it will add operating costs, but the EPA has mandated this change. period. By the year 2015 or 2016 I think?

In my local area, Pacific Harbor Lines is actually now at tier III and tier II with all their engines. Quite a feat, considering the age of their fleet. Roster here: http://www.thedieselshop.us/PHL.HTML

Without the space limitations of under the hood of a car they can pull EGR from after the DPF for "clean" retreatment. Its in testing for light duty trucks to avoid excessive soot in the inlet (Cough Ford cough).

Same with Catalytic converters. All of the emissions control systems went to crap on my Dodge Ram, just punched out the cat, clipped the O2 sensors, and adjusted my ECU. I went from 17 city to 10, after I fixed it, it jumped back to 18-19.
