Sad to see these things go.. *!sad!*

UP has sold 14 B40-8's. They are moving from Houston, TX to Bowie, AZ now on the EHOBW 23. Unknown who they were sold to, but Bowie is the interchange point with the Arizona Eastern Railway which is owned by Genesee & Wyoming Inc.

UP 6670 is leading the move. Units sold:

UP 1806,1809,1812,1814,1815,1821,1826,1827,1828,1829,1832,1836,1838,1840

The fact UP still had B40-8's is a surprise unto itself.

^ What he said. The first thing NS did when they got Conrail's, was to get rid of them.

You have to remember, CSX was the railroad that inspired Unstoppable. I was talking to a CSX engineer recently who said that CSX is so bad that they're trying to lose money and somehow still turning a profit.

Not as bad as CN. Yes it won a prize for lowest operating cost. How'd they do it? Cut corners everywhere, while employees bear the brunt of the cost cutting.

Anyhoo, wonder if CSX got these to complement it's fleet in local service. And turn the units the B40-8's replaced into slug sets.

And do tell how the employees are are bearing the brunt of whatever the evil corporation is doing?

CN,( IC, & the EJ&E) just spent millions$ on a new inter-change at Matteson, IL.
I watched them build it. They got alot of plans for the future. I bet they wished the Illinois Central
didn't tear up track (single track) all the way south from Richton Park, Il. !*don-know!*

CSX is tearing up an abandoned spur here in Apex that's been there for years and is in the way of nothing! At least used locomotives aren't a waste of money/resources.

The IC regretted that 20 years ago when they spun off GMSR to Midsouth to KCS. They had to spend untold amount of money to get their core route sidings and main line improved. Signals as well. the IC was quoted in a trade magazine as "not using their best judgment on pulling up all the double track to basically New Orleans. They had sold their entire route to the east, GM&O, and had let maintenance go on both north south routes. CSX was quoted as saying about the same thing from Cincinnati to Mobile.
