Faded Display on Scanner

So, the LCD display on my scanner has faded. However, if I press down on the display, I can see the numbers. Is there anyway to fix this? So far, everyone seems to be saying chunk the scanner for a new one. However, I don't really see the point in chunking a perfectly working scanner just because the display stopped working.

Any advice?

Talking about a radio scanner? Like for cops, fire, aircraft, trains? Check the manufacturer's website, see if they sell parts. Also do a Google with the make/ model and ask for a replacement display. Hope you are good with electronics repair, with a soldering station that's temperature controlled and a fine tip. I fixed my hand held Bearcat once but it was a PITA.

If it is a Radio Shack PRO2055 the display ribon cable is the problem. The connector needs to be reseated.
If it is outside a PRO2055, looks like the LCD display is going out.

From what I can find on the internet a reset should do the trick.
