Interesting shot from the webcam

I had the webcam up from Roanoke, and was pleased to see a loaded coal train coming through heading east. As I was watching, a light engine move came through on an adjacent track. At first, I couldn't tell what the 'hi-nose' had behind it, but as it came into view, it was pretty nice to see the old girl. May be heading for the boneyard, or the paint shop...no idea - the name is lined out. I didn't think that this paint job existed anymore other than in a rail museum or on someone's basement layout. Sure was nice to see it come through though.

Pshh, that paint job is a far ways away from being history up here in Wisconsin, seems as though every third train on the CP has some sort of Soo unit whether it be one like this, a red "Candy Apple" (all red with white stripes and their later logo), or the occasional ex-MILW bandit, but seeing it on the NS is pretty special! Nice catch!

Took this back in March, some proof that the Soo lives on! (Finally a use for one of my botched shots!)

It's been so long since I've seen a SOO engine! I get tons of CSX (duh), NS, NYS&W and even CN units and the odd UP and BNSF rolling through Syracuse....someone in town even owns a private observation car from EL, and it's sweet!

Yea NS is fine. It's actually because of a huge increase in rail traffic and NS just doesn't have enough locomotives! (they only have about 45 units in storage to boot)

Good shot shicoe30. I have to say I like the Red/White scheme on the standard cab SD60's, but the "Candy Apple" on the SD60 Widecab's.

Everything out here is BNSF or UP these days. Mostly BNSF, and they put their logo on all the engines they have aquired with out repainting them. So I see Warbonnet's and Yellow Bonnets with BNSF on the side all the time, along with the orange (are they called "pumpkins?) and black.

Gotta love them widecabs Chessie! Very rare to see them but I've gotten lucky once or twice. They keep them very clean considering their age. I hear the CP is starting to retire the SD60's but there are still plenty of Soo Line SD40's and miscellaneous Geeps running around up here. Here's one of the widecabs leading one of CP's one unit wonders. CP will try to pull ANYTHING with just one unit.


And ArizonaChris, speaking of BNSF putting their lettering/logo on locomotives without repainting, check out this CN unit, kinda the same concept. CN bought 30 something C-40-8Ws from the BNSF and are slowly repainting them, but initially they just stuck the CN "noodle" on the front and sides.

I see these all the time. Mixed in with the "pumpkin" BNSF. UP is getting rarer and rarer here.

Perhaps, I don't know where in southern California you are, but this is the last time I saw West Colton.

Colton is quite a ways from where I'm at. I'm closer to the Port of Long Beach/ Los Angeles. The line that runs near me goes from LAX down to Long Beach. If I go to San Pedro, I see a lot of switchers for Pacific Harbor Lines. http://www.anacostia.com/phl/phl.html They do all the dock switching and connect to the main lines for UP and BNSF. It's BNSF that goes North and South near where I am, UP goes east so I never see them.
