The chargers and EMD's f125 seem to be quite controversial as far as railfans go from my experience. I personally like the things.

The chargers are powered by one of the best industrial Cummins diesel prime movers they ever made, while the spirits are powered by a super high tech 20 cylinder CAT engine.

I think the GE Genesis has finally met its match after all these years.

Yuck. I'm gonna miss the F59s.

I saw a pair of these hitching a ride to Los Angeles on the Amtrak Coast Starlight #11 at Surf near my town about a month ago. I plan on filming these on the coast for my YouTube channel at some point. I'm not too keen on it's looks nor the fact it's not made by GE or EMD..... but that's the new reality.

American technology is not in the position it used to be. European companies are able to make things much better than us now. Canada's Bombardier, France's Alstom, and Germany's Siemens continue to give GE and GM one heck of a challenge in the railroad industry.

Except in freight. I highly doubt any of these will ever be a contender in freight service.
GE seems relatively uninterested in making passenger service locomotives, though that may change with the Wabtec buyout. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see a bid go out from them to levy a long distance variant of the HSP46 locomotives.
Aside from a few kinks that got worked out, MBTA seems to like them.
