It's tragic that she was hit. I can only imagine how devastated the UP crew is.

as others have said hope the crew is getting the support they need to deal with this but I do have to wonder just HOW you can miss 844 coming towards you.. its not like its a electric locomotive that is basically silent other than its horn.. It will be interesting to read the NTSB report on this one in order to see what recommendations they have regarding future steam operations..

At first it was thought to be a suicide but now they are starting to say that it was a selfie taker.
If this is true, it is a COMPLETE lack of common sense.
The crew probably has PTSD now. What could they do seriously?
Apparently the person didnt know or think that the train was wider than the rails and hung off a few feet each side.

Hopefully they will realize you can't fix stupid and move on.

Apparently this drone shot was just before the impact...

It's a very unfortunate accident for everyone involved.

I saw the video shot from the drone. it's crazy how she was just standing there and didn't move.

I would image Union Pacific will get tougher on security for any future steam excursions. These events draw out the public, and there are certainly people who will test the limits...

To think I was just chasing this train, I only live a mile from where it took place, it's pretty sad to hear.
Now I would imagine UP being more strict on any future excursions, I don't even wanna think about how 4014 is gonna be.

Your right Buzz, things like this the railroads usually shrug off. Unless someone tries to sue them.

Hope the selfie was worth it!

If it's a seasoned crew, I'm sure this isn't there first incident. Support and some mark off time is available if needed. It's just sad that some folks have become so self absorbed, that they are willing to risk life and limb to be on top with "the number of hits or likes". And what's really sad... is that this gal probably didn't even think for a second the danger she was putting herself and others in.
