Found this while surfing steam era stuff...As steam locos got bigger the earlier turntables were not capable of servicing the newer bigger locos so somebody came up with these fitted extenders. Water, oil or coal had to be at the minimum in the tender to allow such an operation and a " special engineer " had to be used for this operation. What a brilliant quick fix...
