NS's SD70ACC and AC44C6CF Program

Unread postby TheTeenageFoamer » Tue Jan 09, 2018 4:16 pm

I've just heard NS is rebuilding Spartan cab SD70s into SD70ACCs, and the Dash 9 into AC44C6CFs, both being converted from DC to AC.

Would you happen to know where these locomotives will be rebuilt and how many?

From what I have heard, the SD70s are getting stripped down in Mayfield, KY, then getting rebuilt in Muncie, IN. I believe all of them.

The dash 9s I believe will be Roanoke, VA. I'm not sure how many of these will be converted, perhaps all as well.

Intriguing... I know most AC44C rebuilds have 4 or 6M but this is the first time I have ever seen the designation of "CF". What could this mean?

Correct, the standard cab SD70s are being rebuilt into SD70ACCs. These will basically be SD70MACs with SD70ACe style cabs. All of the standard cab Dash 9s are being rebuilt as AC44C6Ms. A good portion of the D9-44CWs will also be built as AC44C6Ms, but they are also testing out two AC44C6CFs. According to a post by NSDash9 on their facebook page, "The AC44C6M's are built to GE specs using GE components. The AC44C6CF is a CAF USA design that will use CAF USA and other aftermarket parts."

If anyone is a NS nut like I am, check this site out for NS locomotive info. http://www.nsdash9.com/roster.html
