I'm kinda glad I don't work a Class 1. I have friends that do and they always get ticked off when they have a manager that started last week who has a degree in business management telling them how to do their jobs.

Railroad people seem to have a culture of animus toward management. Interesting.

I'm not bitter... just experienced. At least the management on my railroad are also engineers and conductors so they aren't completely out of touch with reality. And they are great people, don't get me wrong, but sometimes rulings or solutions from a problem make me go **!!bang!!**

Howdy Buzz,

Indeed your right, and so is CArailroader. Its an institutional hostility, going back to the days before unions when safety and working conditions were nonexistent.
In fairness there are certainly two sides of the fence. Some of the people that work for the railroad have no business driving a car let alone a 24000 ton train!
So I can't blame the railroads for trying to test and fail/fire employees for some relatively silly things. Their trying to weed out the 'undesirables'.
This is a BIG debate I should probably avoid fueling but, its a song as old as time.

I will say coming from a military background where respect and leadership are paramount, its extremely counter intuitive. Maybe that's why they like to hire veterans *!lol!*

Take care!

Nah you won't hear much more complaints from me, I mean I do this for free and at the end of the day, I feel mighty blessed to be part of a museum that has a real working railroad, not too many places around the country can say that. To me it's the most fun thing to do (besides fishing) and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
