Here's what I do. About to shut down and enjoy life. Running out of patience for the idiot people I deal with.

Just looked for a vid to share and found a guy I worked with who is a "big" boss now giving tours to bus foamers. I never even knew there was such a thing. Now I know why train guys get ticked. !*roll-laugh*!

The begining of the video shows a a bus depot fuel line and bus wash, that's what I started when I got into NYCTA. People snapping pics like ohh and ahh. !*don-know!* !DUH!

Skip to 5:52 and there is a group of people rolling into the central maintenance facility on a vintage bus, didn't even know they did that. This is the smaller shop, I work at Zerega CMF in the Bronx. https://youtu.be/tqTVEZfgTWM

Here is some shots of a vintage 1930 Double Decker that we were servicing that I took at my location. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKqAegz6zpA

Nice stuff. Which part do you do? I assume you have a CAD program to help?

Really interesting stuff indeed, look forward to reading (and seeing what others do too)

Think of me every time you crack open a cold one. My job is a little bit of everything after the washer.

Amazing. I must have sent several back to be recycled for another day. Very interesting.

Hi Bob. I'm the boss. I use a couple of subcontractors for the bigger jobs, (box / trailer wraps). I hand lettered logo's and trademarks on trucks for about 20 years in the 70's-95. Then as in your trade, all signage went to decal cutting, computer generated. I miss the challenge of hand lettering, but don't miss taking all day to letter a couple of trucks. I still find interesting jobs from time to time,(still far between) but can't think of anything else I'd rather do. Enjoyed my trade since 1974.

That's sweet dejoh.

My problem is, well not "my" problem, I'm not a body man, is the new buses come from the factory in the NYCTA paint scheme but it ain't paint. The blue stripe running down the side of the bus is vinyl. After 100,000 miles and it is baked on you're lucky if you can peel it off with a heat gun. Any rock chips or anything causes it to break apart.

Our paint guys then finish it off with real paint and problem solved for the next time but this factory vinyl bullshit sucks. *!twisted!*

Here's a glimpse into what I used to do before I quit the space business to make trains instead ...

Image

I wrote embedded software such as the operating system and some parts of the science software for those boxes they call "Instrument computers and electronics".

INTEGRAL was launched in 2002 and amazingly it's still up there in orbit, analysing gamma-ray bursts from black holes, supernovae and so on.

I can't take pictures at my job or even be specific, but in short, I work security at a state government building. But it isn't fun so that's where volunteering on the Sacramento Southern Railroad is my "other job."

We were never allowed cameras on the work floor and management wasn't either. They started installing cameras on all of the buses for acts of terrorism. When buses came into my shop we would place latex gloves over the cameras.

One day Dept. of Homeland Security contacted the MTA because they couldn't see inside the bus. We refuse to be spied on by the Gov'ment when the bus is in a totally secured facility, that's bullshit. The MTA also has cameras now watching us in some places so it is only fair we can have cameras on cell phones to document unsafe working conditions. That's the only reason they don't want workers taking pictures.
