Will CSX See Steam Ever Again?

Rarely has a mainline steam loco enter CSX territory. It was done a couple of times, but in the recent years, the sound of clanking rods and chuffing iron giants have been long gone.

So that brings us to this discussion. Will CSX ever see steam again?

Just to be sure, you mean CSX property, right? Not the actual railroad itself running steam?

Yes and no. It would be great if CSX took time for actual heritage units and a steam program. But if that won't work (it probably will never happen anyway) it will be great to see some kind of steam loco running on CSX property.

That's also another factor. No $$ = No Steam.

CSX hates steam. This is well known to older rail fans. They hate excursions. They actually hate railroading, and believe if they could get rid of all the track and rolling stock, they could increase their profit margin. Shareholders are the only thing that matter to them. CSX does not understand public relations,or goodwill. They are a pitiful successor to once great roads such as the B&O and C&O. The only steam you will ever see, would be coming out of executives ears,if it was suggested they do such a thing. The only entity that hates steam more than CSX,is the EPA.

Why would any railroad want to run their steam on another railroad's tracks? The point is to promote their own railroad with their own steam on their own routes. !**duh*!!

He means only their railroads. As in say a SSW locomotive on Sherman hill. Hence why 819 is the way it is currently

844 Did a Double Header with the 4449 in 2007 IIRC. That event was run almost ENTIRELY on the BNSF Seattle Subdivision. The only UP they ran on was the ex MILW In Tacoma.
