It will be hard for EMD to make the comeback,since Amtrak's roster is mostly the genesis locos.However I'm sure soon enough GE will make a response with a T4 genesis,too.

The heat is really kicking in in EMD's attempt at a comeback.

It's using a Cat C175 engine which has already proven to be a headache on the NS with the PR43Cs, we'll see how well this works out. It's based on the Vossloh Class 68 platform so that's interesting enough.

If it based on the class 68s we have over in the UK then I haven't heard of any major issues with them.
Saying that the running conditions in the US and the UK are very different.

Well EMD isn't their only competition. The Siemens Charger with a 4400hp V16 Cummins QSK95 high-speed (1800rpm) 4-stroke diesel apparently has 90 North American orders (w/190+ additional optioned)....
