My birthday present!

I got a wonderful present from my parents for my 50th birthday today. They gave me my Grandpa Pryor's pocket watch with an Illinois Central Suggestion Achievement Award pendant from 1951 attached to the watch chain. Grandpa was a section foreman for the IC. Thought I'd share pics with you all.

Memorabilia like that is great stuff! Looks great! And I see it is 4 years older than me... A few months ago I was given an original Conductor's Vest from the PRR. Still in pretty good shape. I have it hanging in my RR display with my model railroad.

Nice gifts, with a personal connection.

Does the watch still run? Those watches were built to last. Otherwise, they are usually quite serviceable by a qualified watch maker.

Doesn't seem to run now. I haven't decided if I'm going to get it fixed or just leave it as is.

Very cool! The IC pendant pictured was from 1951, but the watch was manufactured +-3 years of 1928 from what I've been able to tell.

Cool!
Try to find a competent jeweler who likes old watches. He will love opening it, cleaning it and will tell you what it needs. There's no reason it should need anything else to get working.

Was his suggestion "Abandon steam, switch to diesel" ?
