A joke - or sounds very familiar?

A joke - or sounds very familiar?

One day the workers at a factory are called together and told by the management that the factory was going to full automation. Everyone would be retrained to maintain the automated manufacturing equipment; no one would be fired and there would be no reduction in pay or benefits. But workers would only have to come to work on Tuesdays to do the maintenance; the rest of the week would be their own time to do as they wish.

And from the back of the room came an anguished shout, "What! Every Tuesday?"

The beginning reminds me of the book "We the Living".
