Yeah, not normally something you would expect to see on your rafting trip.

More pictures here.

This is going to cost someone quite a few pennies. But that's not something you'll see everyday.

Assembled plane fuselages have to be several million in cost considering the cost of the final product. I'd guess it's the most expensive thing per carload that a railroad hauls. That's why there's insurance.

They might be able to still use some of the fuselages, but I have doubts. They don't seem to be that damaged cosmetically but some of the frames might be slightly bent at the strap down points. At the very least they can salvage individual parts.

They won't reuse those fuselages. If it's out of tolerance at all, it's scrap. It's not worth it to Boeing to have workers take off pieces to reuse, unless it's an expensive piece, which at this assembly stage I doubt would be installed. Just the frames, skin, brackets, that kind of stuff. I worked at Mc Donnel Douglas for several years on the DC9/ DC10 final assembly line in the late 70's, so I know a little about building these things. *!!wink!!*

And moisture won't really harm the metal, it's all coated in that green anodizing paint. Then sometimes a thin layer of greasy stuff is sprayed on. (I'm old, I forget what the stuff was/ is called. LPS, maybe?)

Matters not whether in or out of tolerance. Goods involved in any incident resulting in real (or imagined) damage is a liability, especially those catering to transporting humans in a safe environment.

There is a lot of truth to that. In high school auto shop in '86, we got a brand new Sentra donated to us by Nissan. It's only problem was ONE tie down hook on the underframe got bent during transport. Nissan stipulated as a condition of the donation that it was never to be driven on public roads. It was for on-campus repair and diagnostic instruction only. Didn't affect driver safety, but Nissan didn't care. To them, it was unfit for the road. *!rolleyes!*

Well it is unfit in countries where you can sue a company for millions for frivolous reasons.
