This is about 10 miles from where Mom and Dad live in Northern Arizona: http://verdecanyonrr.com/ At one time, mom lived right down the street from this scenic RR in Clarkdale. Next time I go visit, I'm gonna make sure it's during the running season and take a ride. Looks like fun! !!*ok*!!

I did a set of Verde Canyon approved repaints on the Britkits FP7s, they're in the library.

The Verde Canyon Railroad is well worth the trip. If you have a choice, take the evening trip that they run during the summer. You'll be able to see the scenery as it stays light until the far end of the line, but on the way back, riding the open cars in pitch blackness under the stars is quite the experience!

I think I'm gonna shoot for late May. I checked the prices, darn reasonable! This has become a must do. !!*ok*!!

(now to see if I can afford LA Union Station to Flagstaff, then a shuttle to Cottonwood)

I'd strongly urge renting a car at Flagstaff. There are very few places to stay in Cottonwood, most of the lodging is in Sedona. Also, assuming you have the time, you'll want to go over to Jerome (about 20 or 30 min from Cottonwood) which is another old copper mining town. Very interesting place.

Mom and dad live in Cottonwood, aunt lives in Clarkdale. Lots of family in the Verde Valley, more family spread out all over Arizona. I've been all over the entire area since I was a kid. All the monuments, Jerome of course, fantastic scenery and history. Slide Rock was always a summer favorite. Actually, my "vacation" stomping grounds were anywhere from Phoenix to the White Mountains, Flag, Prescott, etc. I love Arizona.

If I do need a motel in Cottonwood, I stay at The View Motel. It's always been a favorite. But mom's usually got a spare bed (or the sofa, LOL). !!*ok*!!
