Gorgeous! It looks like a calendar photo which would mean it was a large-format camera. Something about that picture doesn't look old to my eyes, though... can't say why... maybe just my eyes or screen. Could someone have staged that in recent years around a tourist RR in CO or the Hood River or somewhere?

Last summer, my mom sent me an e mail that had about a dozen photos like this, and including this one. Some look almost like a painting, but some also look like they are from "back-in-the-day". Wish now I still had that e mail. I'll see if I can dig it up. "cars and trains" I think it was called.

That a superbly composed and lighted image! The only real giveaway is the grade crossing: back when that automobile was still new, there would have be creosoted crossing planks on either side of the rails. More typically, the planks would have covered the area from tire end to tie end, so the railroad could easily and quickly dig up and replace the track structure. They were still building them that way into the early-'70s, when synthetics took over on heavily used lines, and installations such as this became common on more lightly used lines.

I have an e-mail that has this picture in it. The e-mail is titled "When a Car was a car and a Train was a Train". I just don't know how to go about uploading it.
