Unfortunately, because of the core code, all I can do is use the dampers, but ... I have worked out a way to simulate the firing valve to give a very rapid response to the steam generation rate (if you don't pay close attention all the time, it's going to very easy to either lift the safety pop valves, or on the other hand, leave the engineer sighing when the steaming rate doesn't keep up with the demand).

Interesting difference in technology. Here in the States if you left your door open for any length of time you would be given a reprimand when you came back with a leaky flue bundle. Somethings remain the same across the ocean, even 70 years later. I was taught where to place the coal on the cabwall with a piece of soapstone.
