Quebec village destroyed by freight train explosion

Grab a rock, have a seat, and talk about the real world of trains.

Nice to see the Federal Railroad Adminsitration will be closing the barn door after the horses are gone. I thought the operating rules required that a crew is to be relieved by a crew. I guess the "Bean Counters" were trying to save a few bucks...

Sorry to bring up an old thread but this accident is now nearing it's one year anniversary and I saw this article posted on the CBC's Facebook page.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/deadly-train-disaster-still-haunts-people-of-lac-m%C3%A9gantic-1.2694151
I recommend reading it as it gives the accident more of a human aspect and shows haw devastated this town truly was and still is.

It is still very much actual.
Until a few days ago, the satellite images on Google Earth were those taken a few weeks after the accident. You could see the charred tankers and the ruins. It looked a bit like Hiroshima.

Now it shows more recent imagery with the clean-up well under way.

Still, if you look at the same streets in Street View, you'll see how they were before the accident.
It is almost unbearable.
