My friend and I spent a morning out watching trains, first time I've done that in a while. Headed down to Bayview, a busy Junction near Hamilton, Ontario. Three CN subdivisions meet here and way in the distance the CP Hamilton sub is just visible.
First train of the day was a GO train. It had just departed Hamilton and was on it's way to Toronto.

A few Via trains and a CN windmill extra passed, this one being one of them. This one is coming off the Dundas Sub(The tracks going off to the right)

A CN Mixed coming up from Niagara. CN is really short on power right now so leaser units like the PLRX EX BNSF in this train isn't uncommon now.

In the distance we saw A CP Mixed heading up the Hamilton Sub toward Guelph, so we decided to leave Bayview and start heading back home to Guelph. Here it is a little ways up from Bayview. The Hamilton sub traverses up the Niagara Escarpment and is mountain grades on the way up, the units pull real hard going up.

Back In Guelph, we had to stop by and see OSR. OSR is the Ontario Southland Railway and in Guelph they operate the Guelph Junction Railway on behalf of the City. The City of Guelph has owned the GJR for over 120 years and was the first municipality in the Commonwealth to own a railway. The CPR operated the GJR for 100 years and in 1998 or 9 OSR took over when CPR didn't renew the 100 year lease. Under OSRs management traffic has grown substantially. Lately OSR has been using a matching pair of MLW M420's still in their BC rail paint. Here they are switching the PDI production plant in the South end of Guelph. If you know where to go you can get some excellent shots in this area. The engineer is a good friend of mine, and taught me everything I know about operating trains.
