Indeed. I am seeing fewer SP patch units around Oakland as well.
What is that signal? It looks like there is an X on it, perhaps something to do with the crossing?

Yeah, that's part of the crossing horns on a pole since they don't use their horns. I think it tells the engineer that the crossing horn is working but not sure.

Not my best photos. Just some pictures i took a few years ago down at Whitefish yard. I was using an iPod so that's why the quality might be bad. GN 181 EX BN white face gp30
CSXT locomotive (not sure what type. Looks like a SD70ace)
Those GP30s are pretty amazing machines. The youngest examples are now over 50 years old and still in service, albeit rebuilt, for Class Is. Impressive.
I don't railfan as much as I would like so I don't have many good photos but I lie this one, a GP38-2W, and GP38-2 shunting with old Via Budd RDC's in the background.
This is the only electric locomotive that CSX owned. The X5000. It was powered by a 250 volt battery. If you have any arguments as of whether this is an electric locomotive or not take that up with the B&O roundhouse. This is classified as an electric on their site. Note these pictures are not mine. I emailed a staff member at the B&O Roundhouse if he could take these for me.
The cab(i believe this is the only picture of its cab)
Classified as an electric switch engine it was the shop goat at the C&O Locomotive shops in Huntington WV for many years. Here it is in Chessie colors.
